We are seeking candidates for two PhD student positions:
- theoretical nuclear physics
- theoretical solid state physics
See details of both positions below:
PhD student position in theoretical nuclear physics
Scholarship for PhD student in theoretical nuclear physics in the Department of Theoretical Physics at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland.
Title of research topic: The distribution of nuclear matter during fission
The PhD student will be involved in the theoretical analysis of the fission process. The fully microscopic Hartree-Fock-Bogolubov theory will be used to analyze the shape, isospin density ratio, and surface diffuseness of nuclei before the rupture.
PhD program is predicted for four years.
Requirements
Skills/Qualifications:
- Master's degree in physics or a related field, preferably nuclear theory;
- knowledge of English at B2 level;
- knowledge of essential nuclear physics, nuclear theory, and quantum mechanics;
- strong work motivation and commitment to the project;
- ability to work independently and as part of a research team;
- willingness to develop in theoretical nuclear physics.
Benefits
- We offer a 36-month scholarship at 5.000 PLN gross monthly.
- Additionally, students at the Doctoral School receive a scholarship of 3466,90 PLN gross monthly during the first two years and 5340,90 PLN gross monthly during the next two years.
Eligibility criteria
- Completed Master's degree in physics or a related field;
- Doctoral student status at the time of starting participation in the project and during the period of performing tasks in the project;
- A candidate must be a student at the Doctoral School of Quantitative and Natural Sciences at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University or be in the recruitment process to the Doctoral School.

PhD student position in theoretical solid state physics
Scholarship for PhD student in theoretical solid state physics in the Department of Theoretical Physics at Maria Curie-Sklodowska University in Lublin, Poland.
Title of research topic: Superconducting nanohybrids out of equilibrium
The PhD student will investigate the out-of-equilibrium properties of superconducting nanoscopic hybrid devices consisting of nanoscopic elements, such as quantum dots, connected to superconducting leads. These devices, which are currently considered for applications in quantum information processing and other sub-micrometer technologies, provide an ideal setup to study quantum phenomena under controlled conditions. Using various methods previously developed by the members of Lublin-Poznań consortium, Ph.D. student will evaluate the charge transport properties (e.g. thermopower, microwave response) and confront them with the recent experimental data. Some methods will be further generalized to the strongly out-of-equilibrium situations, inspecting the Josephson-type systems driven by external voltage or quenched by abrupt change of the parameters.
PhD program is predicted for four years.
