Selfconsistent fusion barriers at near-barrier energies

Static nucleus-nucleus potential is obtained by solving the Skyrme Hartree-Fock problem with initial configurations consisting of target and projectile at various relative distances. For a number of reaction partners the calculated barrier heights reasonably well compare with those extracted from the measured fusion and capture cross sections. The calculated entrance channel potentials are presented in relation to the fission barriers of the compound systems for selected cases. On this basis we speculate on possible reasons for the fusion hindrance.
