The shape coexistence description by mean-field and beyond mean-field methods

A new method to restore symmetries on mean-field wave functions and to treat quantum mechanically the vibrations with respect to a collective mode by configuration mixing has been recently set up. The basic ingredients of the method will be reviewed. Application to different region of the nuclear chart (in particular to nuclei around neutron deficient Pb isotopes) will be discussed.
