On insulated charged metallic clusters

I report on a common work with M. Garny and K. Pomorski: We consider a positively charged metallic cluster covered by an insulating surface layer. We determine the eigenenergies and wave functions of electrons bound in the Coulomb potential of the positively charged core, and we study the electromagnetic decay of the system. The lifetime may vary by up to 6 orders of magnitude depending on the parameters of the system.
